Type Locality and Naming

Column: Syria, and in SE Syria column (where it has a sandy unit in middle, hence: claystone Afendi (C) Fm, sandy Kahfah Fm, claystone Afendi (B) Fm in SE Syria

Synonym: Afandi Fm (spelling), Kahfah Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Comprised of mostly continental sandstone and siltstone with rare intercalations of limestone.

Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next older unit as Swab Fm

Regional extent

Afendi (C) Fm is equivalent to the Qasim Fm in NW Saudi Arabia, the Umm Tafira Fm in NE Jordan, and the Khabour in W Iraq. Afendi (B) Fm is equivalent to the Qasim in NW Saudi Arabia, the Umm Tafira Fm in NE Jordan, and the Khabour Fm in W Iraq.
